Elaine Peacock and Friends to perform in Gayville

Gayville Hall, the old-time music hall, is located in Gayville, SD, will present “Elaine Peacock & Friends,” a two-hour musical extravaganza. The show, to be held Saturday, May 27, at 7 p.m., is a patriotic musical salute to Memorial Day.

Every donation counts

Thanks to the United States Postal Service and the local Girl Scouts, the Elk Point Food Pantry has more items to stock on their shelves. On May 9, the girl scouts donated money and food items to the pantry.

Union County Board of Commissioners hear tower estimate

At a prior meeting, the Union County Board of County Commissioners were informed the current communications tower couldn’t be relocated and would have to be replaced. At their meeting May 16, the commissioners heard the estimate for building a new tower at a different location on the courthouse property.

DV board votes on SDHSAA ballots, amendments

The Dakota Valley school board met May 9 and held a three-hour long meeting. The board had many items to address including voting on items from the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA).

Staff win state awards

The staff of the Dakota Dunes/North Sioux City Times and the Southern Union County Leader-Courier were recently presented with awards from the 2022 South Dakota Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Contest. The awards were presented at the 2023 convention held in May.

Memorial Day services

American Legion Post 319 will conduct its Memorial Day Services May 30 at McCook Cemetery and Civil Bend Cemetery. Post members will be at McCook Cemetery at 10 a.m. and Civil Bend Cemetery at 11 a.m.

Corvette Enthusiasts hold Memorial Ride

The Corvette Enthusiasts graced Elk Point with their presence Sunday, May 7. For the first time in three years, the group began their cruise from Elk Point in honor of late member Becky Jolin who passed away suddenly on Feb. 3, 2023.

St. Paul members help clean area

On Sunday, May 7, members and friends of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, gathered to clean up a two-mile stretch of Highway #11 (319th Street to 321st Street), a part of South Dakota’s Adopt-AHighway (Litter Control) program. They also cleaned the church cemetery and the church yard.
