October friends feast

The Elk Point-Jefferson School staff will host the October Friends feast on Monday, October 14th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Church and promises to be a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come together.

Celebrating Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is a German festival typically lasting two weeks from mid-September to mid-October. And on Saturday, September 21 it was happening on main street, in Jefferson, courtesy of Jefferson Beer Supply. From noon to 6 pm, the public was invited to enjoy craft beer, a variety of food and most of all a lot of camaraderie and good conversation with fellow patrons.

Hanson celebrates 100th

Adrian Hanson of Elk Point, S.D., will celebrate his 100th birthday on Saturday, Sept. 28, with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m.

FEMA: Here to kickstart the recovery process

Tony Mayne and Claudia Anderson want those affected by the spring flooding, severe storms and straight-line winds to know they are here for them. Both were in North Sioux City on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Mayne was present on behalf of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). Anderson was there representing the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience.

Westcott wins South Dakota Emergency Management award

Union County Emergency Manager Jason Westcott was recognized by his peers in the Emergency Management field for his outstanding work and dedication to the people of Union County during the June 2024 flooding.

EPJ School board approves annual budget

The Elk Point-Jefferson Board of Education convened for their regular meeting on September 9, 2024, at 5:30 pm in the high school study hall. The meeting was chaired by President Travis Geary, with the following members present: Tim Brewer, Noelle Jacobs, and Kyle Hanson. Superintendent Philip Schonebaum, Business Manager Heather Watterson, Principals Skyler Eriksen and Laura Throener, K-12 Dean of Students/Activities Director Justin Clercx, and Technology Coordinator Myles Larsen were present.
