Elk Point-Jefferson’s Unified Special Olympics Bowling team was in Sioux Falls on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12, 2025 for an area competition. The 1st day of the contest was for individual bowling and the 2nd day consisted of doubles. Cassandra Schmith accompanied the EPJ bowlers. Schmith works with the Huskies in the school’s Structured Learning Center and is also the Unified Cham- pion Special Olympics Coach.

History was made by the Elk Point-Jefferson boys cross country team on Friday, October 17, 2025 as they outpaced the competition at regionals. A rain delay in Parkston, on October 16, postponed the meet to the next day. However, it did not slow down the Huskies at all.

The Union County Board of Commissioners approved a $240,021 budget supplement, accepted a resignation, and reviewed preliminary courthouse expansion plans during its regular meeting Oct. 14.

The Elk Point-Jefferson Board of Education approved a series of personnel actions, policy updates and a land acquisition during its regular meeting Oct. 15, while also recognizing student achievements in athletics and counseling services.

It was homecoming for the University of South Dakota, on October 4, 2025, and the Huskies had their marching band there to perform. Elk Point-Jefferson received excellent reviews for their musical number in the Dakota Days parade which took place throughout the Saturday morning. The EPJ band impressed the judges as well as the large crowds that lined the streets in Vermillion.

Jackson Prouty of Elk Point continued his rise in the regional running scene with a standout performance at the Sioux Falls Half Marathon on Sept. 21, placing second in his age division and 19th overall out of 1,057 runners.

The Elk Point City Council approved a residential variance request and discussed a proposed rental housing tax rebate during its regular meeting Oct. 6 at City Hall.

The Jefferson City Council approved a 30-day extension for trailer repairs, authorized liquor licenses for 2026, and voted to purchase a new roadway during its regular meeting Oct. 6 at City Hall.

The Brule Go-Getters 4-H Club started its new year with a new slate of officers and a renewed commitment to community service. Keely Steinbrecher was elected president, joined by Amelia Mannon as vice president, Tyson Freeman as secretary, Addilyn Barker as treasurer, Naomi Handshaker as photographer and Jamarius McBride as chaplain.

Homecoming was a total success for Elk Point-Jefferson as students, teachers, staff and the community encountered fun events from coronation, on September 29, to the formal dance on October 4, 2025. For this year’s homecoming theme the Huskies chose “Once Upon a Homecoming”.
