As summer gets underway, it’s exciting to see our parks, trails, ballfields, community spaces, and the lake come alive once again. This time of year brings more opportunities to get outside, connect with neighbors, and enjoy everything that makes North Sioux City such a special place to call home.
One of the things I appreciate most about our community is that there is always something happening. Whether it’s children participating in the Summer Recreation Program, families taking part in the Summer Reading Program at the library, residents gathering for local events, or studentathletes achieving success at the state level, these activities and accomplishments help strengthen the connections that make our community unique. Congratulations to the Dakota Valley Girls Softball Team on winning the first state softball championship in school history and for representing our community so well.
This summer also brings some exciting additions. Construction is expected to begin on North Sioux City’s first dog park, creating a new space for residents and their dogs to enjoy. The new pedestrian trail connection between North Sioux City and Dakota Dunes is nearing completion and will soon provide another way for residents to get outdoors and stay active while strengthening connections throughout our region.
We’re also looking forward to the next Ice Cream Social Summer Series event on July 14 at Stevens Park (119 Parkside Avenue). The series began at Centennial Park earlier this summer and offers a chance to connect with neighbors and enjoy an evening in one of our community parks.
While projects and improvements are important, what truly makes North Sioux City special is the people who call it home. The volunteers who give their time, the organizations that serve others, the local businesses that support community events, and the residents who continue to invest in our city all play a role in making North Sioux City a great place to live.
As you enjoy the weeks ahead, I encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities summer brings. Attend a community event, visit a local park, support a local business, or simply spend time getting to know your neighbors. These connections are what help make our community stronger.
Thank you for being part of North Sioux City. I hope you and your family have a safe, enjoyable, and memorable summer.
Warmly, Mayor Chris Bogenrief
