As February reminds us to appreciate what we love, I’ve been reflecting on what makes North Sioux City such a special place to live and lead.

Although my wife and I made the move to North Sioux City in 2022, I’ve been familiar with the area for a long time. I attended college and built my career in the Siouxland region while staying actively involved in various organizations and boards - including as a founding member of the North Sioux City Econom‑ic Development Corpora‑tion and, more recently, as a board member of the Dakota Valley Business Council. When it came time for us to settle in a place that felt like home, we didn’t just move here, we encouraged others to join us. Today, we’re lucky to have extended family just down the street.

We’ve come to truly appreciate the rhythm of life in our quiet neigh‑borhood, where kids ride their bikes, neighbors greet each other from their driveways, and families come together throughout the year for block parties and shared meals. North Sioux City is a place that values con‑nection and community, where simple moments matter. Some of my favor‑ite memories aren’t tied to big events, but to every‑day experiences that cap‑ture the spirit of this city: bike rides through Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve, evenings spent hosting friends in the backyard, and time on the lake, something I look for‑ward to enjoying again as recovery continues.

Now, after ten months of serving as your mayor, I’ve had the chance to see North Sioux City from a new perspective. Our city staff works with profes‑sionalism, pride, and a deep sense of responsibil‑ity. I’ve also been fortu‑nate to serve alongside commissioners who bring thoughtfulness and care to the decisions they make on behalf of the commu‑nity. And I’ve heard from residents, some who have lived here their whole lives, others who are new, who share a common inter‑est in making North Sioux City the best it can be.

What I value most about this role is the op‑portunity to help guide our future while staying rooted in everything that makes North Sioux City feel like home. This isn’t just a place to live. It’s a place to belong, and that’s something truly worth cel‑ebrating.

Thank you for being part of it. Warmly, Mayor Chris Bogenrief
