Federal races
Incumbents saw strong support at the top of the ballot. In the U.S. Senate race, Mike Rounds dominated Union County with 1,730 votes, far ahead of Justin McNeal’s 484. The U.S. House race produced a similar result, with Marty Jackley carrying the county 1,556 to 471 over James Bialota.
Governor
The four‑way Republican primary for governor was the closest major contest locally. Toby Doeden finished narrowly ahead with 783 votes, followed closely by Dusty Johnson with 768. Jon Hansen received 361, and Larry Rhoden finished with 353.
Legislature
Union County voters strongly backed Sydney Davis in the District 17 Senate primary, giving her 1,146 votes to Jeffrey Church’s 316.
In the District 17 House race, Chris Kassin led the three‑way field with 1,204 votes, followed by Troy Redler with 747 and Robin Schiro with 173.
District 16 voters favored Lisa Bogue, who received 452 votes, ahead of John Shubeck and Jason VanDenTop.
County offices
Several county‑level contests produced decisive outcomes. James Prouty won the sheriff’s race with 1,770 votes, defeating Presley Helm. Laurie Buum secured the Register of Deeds office with 1,241 votes to Debra Severson’s 585.
In county commission races, William Shorma won District 1, Richard Roy William Headid won District 3, and Peggy Ustad carried District 5.
Local boards and municipal races
In the Elk Point‑Jefferson School Board election, Traci McDonald led with 391 votes, followed by Erik Hanson and Jay Gabel.
North Sioux City voters selected Vincent Tucker for city commissioner, while Dakota Dunes residents chose Brian Goeden for board supervisor.
Precinct committee races
Union County precinct‑level contests produced several competitive outcomes.
In Precinct 2, Christian Froschheuser won the committeeman race with 58 votes, defeating Karl Johnson, who received 45.
In Precinct 12, Brock Hutchinson won the committeeman seat with 131 votes to Donald Lantis’ 102.
For committeewoman in Precinct 3, Alesha Voeltz received 185 votes, defeating Robin Schiro, who finished with 95.
In Precinct 8, Katie Miller won the committeewoman race with 54 votes, ahead of Carol Sabella‑Ebel’s 10.
Precinct 12’s committeewoman race ended in a tie, with Reta Lantis and Barbara Stork each receiving 119 votes.

County canvassing will finalize results in the coming days. Winners will advance to the November general election or assume their respective party roles.
