As the famous movie, Field of Dreams, stated, “If you build it, they will come”. The Panther senior legion team followed that directive, from the 1989 cinema classic, and traveled to Dyersville, Iowa to play baseball at the end of June.

On their home ball field, the Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) junior legion roster played a team from Nebraska on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Their opponent was Crofton and a close battle ensued as neither dugout scored during the first 2 innings of the game.

DV stumbles in twinbill, rallies to take third in Milroy

Some doubleheader action kickstarted a stretch of games for Dakota Valley legion baseball on Tuesday, June 16, 2025. Both contests were against Sioux Falls teams as the Panthers faced Post 15 East and Post 15 West. Unfortunately, both games ended in losses for Dakota Valley (DV).

Five-run third inning propels EPJ past Tri-County

Five runs, that all came in the 3rd inning, was what Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) junior legion team needed to get the win versus the Tri-County Sundogs on Friday, June 26, 2026. The Huskies were the home team and they had 5 hits, 5 runs and only 1 error in the 5-2 victory.

DV goes undefeated wins Class A title

School history was made by Dakota Valley as they went undefeated at the Class A state softball tournament on June 4-6, 2026. The Panthers claimed a championship title for the 1st time since softball became a sanctioned high school sport, in 2023, in South Dakota. Quality preparation, strong senior class leadership and incredible team chemistry helped aid Dakota Valley (DV) on their way to being crowned the 2026 Class A softball champions in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

EPJ upsets top seeds to claim state runner‑up

The Husky softball team turned their Class A state softball tournament into an epic Cinderella story on June 4-6, 2026. They entered the bracket as a #8 seed and captured the Class A runnerup trophy amongst fierce competition. Competing in Aberdeen, South Dakota, over the course of 3 days, Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) played some of their best softball to date.

Betsworth is state champion, Panthers earn runner‑up

An individual state champion and runner-up team finish was in store for the Dakota Valley girls golf team at the Class A golf meet on June 1-2, 2026. Katie Betsworth performed on the links, as she has done all season, to take the 2026 Class A title with an incredible score of 138. This had her at -2 under par over the course of 2 rounds.

Kommes climbs into top 40 as Jansen posts season‑best

The 2026 girls golf season came to a close June 1-2 at Two Rivers Golf Course, where EPJ was represented by juniors Sailor Kommes and Lexi Jansen. The pair earned their spots at the Class A State Tournament after qualifying at the Region 2 Tournament in Canton two weeks earlier.

DV Legion ball opens summer with extra‑inning thriller

Four close games started the summer legion baseball season for Dakota Valley. One run determined each contest on Friday, June 5, 2026 as the Panthers battled Hartington and Renner Post 307. Dakota Valley (DV) played again on Saturday, June 6, versus Parkston and Seward, Nebraska where they were dealt losses.

DV girls make historic third‑place finish at state

The Panther track and field team had an incredible showing at the state meet on May 28-30, 2026. Dakota Valley girls placed high as a team with multiple individuals and relay squads making it on the podium. The top 8 placings at state earned points for the roster in the overall standings and achieved medals. The 2026 state track and field meet took place in Sioux Falls at Howard Wood Stadium.
