Friends of the Library to give back to patrons

With the increase in the cost of everything it seems this year, the North Sioux City Friends of the Library committee has decided to give back to those in need. The Friends will be hosting a grocery gift card giveaway.

Dangerous RSV virus spreads fast among SD children

An earlier-than-normal and more virulent strain of RSV infections in South Dakota is causing severe illness in young children, sparking concerns that pediatric intensive care units could become strained, especially if combined with a winter spike in influenza or COVID-19 cases.

South Dakota DMV delaying title printing

Due to paper supply issues, the South Dakota Department of Revenue’s Motor Vehicle Division has stopped printing paper titles effective immediately. The paper used for printing titles is very unique as it has built in security features to prevent fraud. The Department anticipates being able to start printing paper titles mid-February 2023.

Dial qualifies for state championship

Caden Dial of the North Sioux City RoboKodas Robotics Club competed at the Mitchell Vex Robotics Tournament in Mitchell, SD. The RoboKodas 77000X, aligned with Harrisburg’s Capten 7686B, going undefeated in elimination rounds, earning Tournament Champions. Third annual SDDOT snowplow naming contest underway

Kids free shopping spree

ARK Church will host its annual Kids Free Shopping Spree (KFSS). The KFSS is an opportunity for children to “shop” Christmas gifts for their parents and siblings at no cost. IM5 fails in NSC

Martin’s passion for military runs deep

The month of November is known as National Veterans and Military Family Month. Jenni Martin, of Dakota Dunes, fits into both of these categories. She has been active in the military for the United States Army and is also a current member of the Air Guard in addition to being a mom.

Honoring all the veterans

Dakota Valley held a ceremony to honor Veterans Day in the high school gym on Friday, Nov. 11. Students in 4th through 12th grade, along with teachers and staff, were in attendance. Speakers for the event included student council members, Dr. Tonia Warzecha and Marine veteran Phil Kratz of Dakota Dunes.

City awarded funds for new lift station

The City of North Sioux City had submitted a plan for a new lift station in the southwest part of the city to South Dakota’s state water plan. They learned at the meeting Nov. 7, that the city was awarded $5,351,110 in SRF loan funding and awarded an additional $1,511,890 in ARPA grant funding. The council approved Resolution 2022-09 Sewer Facilities Improvement.
