Union County Right to Life offers gifts to newborn babies

A new group wishes to welcome newborn babies and their families into the world. Union Country Right to Life has decided to begin a new program for newborn babies. The group wishes for expecting mothers in Union County to inform them of their due dates so they can help welcome your baby into the world. The program is only eligible for residents living within Union County.

City conducts routine business

The Elk Point City Council held their second meeting of the year on Monday, Feb. 5. During the meeting, the council conducted routine business, including approval to advertise for seasonal employees, approve Code Enforcement Specialists (Joel Johnson) contract – $1,500 retainer fee – and extend the Community Center lease with the Recreation Development Association for the remainder of the loan.

Attempted fraud case hits county

A Union County resident called the Sheriff’s Office after receiving a misleading phone call. According to a social media post, “The reporting party stated they were contacted on the phone by a subject who identified themselves as law enforcement with the Department of Homeland Security. The shady trickster attempted to gather bank account information from the potential victim by stating the victim was a suspect in a money laundering investigation.”

Farewell, Sheriff Dan Limoges

Long-time Union County Sheriff Dan Limoges passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13. He had been the Sheriff of Union County for 33 years. 

He began his career in law enforcement in 1985 as a patrol officer for the Alcester Police Department until he accepted a position with the Union County Sheriff’s Office in 1989. He was elected to his first term as Sheriff in 1991 and has been consecutively re-elected Sheriff since.

Dakota Valley Elementary hosts STEM night

Stem Night happened at the Dakota Valley Elementary School on Thursday, Feb. 1. Panther students could attend and go around to different stations and also participate in a scavenger hunt. The whole evening revolved around STEM which stands for science, technology, engineering and math.

‘Pour the Cure’ donation from JBS

On Saturday, Jan. 27, Fore the Cure received a donation check for $750 from Jefferson Beer Supply for a fundraiser in which they brewed a beer named “Pour the Cure” and donated $1 for every pint sold and $2 for every crowler sold.
