2025 South Dakota Middle School All-State Band

Kenzi Jenks represented Dakota Valley’s middle school as a member of the 2025 South Dakota Middle School All-State Band on March 7-8, 2025. The event took place in Mitchell, South Dakota. Jenks, a Panther 8th grader, played the baritone saxophone as a member of the festival band.

EPJ board discusses district highlights

On March 10, 2025, the Elk Point-Jefferson Board of Education convened for a regular session at 5:00 p.m. in the high school’s study hall. President Geary presided over the meeting, with board members Brewer, Hanson, Jacobs, and Sayler in attendance. Additionally, key figures from the district, including Superintendent Schonebaum, Business Manager Watterson, Principals Eriksen and Throener, Technology Coordinator Larsen, and K-12 Dean of Students/Activities Director Clercx, were present.

Friends Feast fosters community spirit in Elk Point

Elk Point residents gathered on the evening of March 10 for the monthly Friends Feast, an event filled with delicious food, heartfelt camaraderie, and a shared sense of giving back to the community. Held from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., the feast brought together individuals from all walks of life, united by the simple joy of breaking bread together.

EPJ attends 16th Annual Elementary Festival Choir

Musical talent was in abundance on Monday, March 3, 2025 at the 16th Annual Elementary Festival Choir. Elk Point-Jefferson had many students attend this exciting event which took place at Dakota Valley Performing Arts Center in North Sioux City, South Dakota.

Vincent gets real world experience

Husky senior Ethan Vincent is getting real world job experience as he closes out the final semester of high school thanks to an amazing opportunity at Empirical Foods. Vincent, a resident of Jefferson, has been interning in the company’s location in Dakota City, Nebraska during. This is part of the internship program that Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) high school coordinates with area businesses.

Warzecha accepts new position in Tea

Many learned on Monday, March 3, 2025 that a familiar face will be leaving the Panther school district next term. The current Dakota Valley superintendent, Dr. Tonia Warzecha, accepted a position at the Tea Area School District for the 2025/26 school year.

County looks for new VSO

On March 4, 2025, the Union County Board of Commissioners convened for their regular session at the Courthouse in Elk Point, South Dakota. The meeting commenced at 8:30 a.m. with all members present, including Dailey, Ballard, Joffer, Kimmel, and Ustad.

North Sioux City election candidates announced

The North Sioux City City Council convened for its regular meeting on March 3, 2025, at 7:00 PM, presided over by Mayor Teel. Attendees included council members Mr. Benson, Mr. Bogenrief, Ms. Christiansen, Mr. Christenson, Mr. Davis, Mr. Green, Ms. Hoffman, and Mr. Meyer. Key city officials in attendance were City Administrator Jeff Dooley, City Finance Officer Amy Lilly, and City Attorney Sarah Kleber.
