This past month has been busy and hopeful for North Sioux City, with progress taking shape in both new development and flood recovery efforts that will help our community move forward stronger than ever.

Several exciting projects have broken ground recently. In the Flynn Business Park, construction has started on the first of four contractor shops designed for local trades and small businesses. JB Pop Popcorn, a local company, is also building a new facility there. A 99,000-squarefoot Nelson Gateway Spec Building is under construction on the north end of the Gateway campus.

Housing development is progressing as well. Lloyd Companies has started work on a $13.5 million project that will add 116 new apartments to our city. After years of planning, Union Crossing is moving forward with Phase 1, which will include single-family homes, duplexes, and commercial spaces.

More developments remain in the planning stages and will be announced soon. Altogether, these projects represent more than growth. They bring jobs, housing options and amenities that will benefit everyone who calls North Sioux City home. On the flood recovery front, Phase 1 of the Homeowner Recovery Program is underway, as the city collects interest from property owners considering selling their lots to the city. The program is a key part of the city’s flood recovery plan.

About ten South Dakota state legislators visited North Sioux City and McCook Lake recently to tour flood-damaged areas and speak with residents. Their visit helps keep local needs visible at the state level and may spark further discussions on support and disaster mitigation.

I remain grateful for the resilience and engagement of our community. Thank you for supporting one another and for helping shape the future of North Sioux City. Warmly, Mayor Chris Bogenrief
