DDCID awards CMAR to L&L

Spring has arrived and it has been busy for the board of supervisors for the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) who met three times between March and April of this year. For the regular session meeting on March 17, 2025 the following employees were present: Andrew Tramp and Katelyn Irby. Board members present included: Ken Beaulieu, Scott Wetz, Julie Shanafelt, Janet Finzen and Bill Shorma. The CID’s attorney council, Darrell Jesse, was also at the March meeting which began at 6 pm.

County hires Johnson as Deputy Treasurer

The Union County Board of Commissioners convened for its regular session on April 29, 2025, at the courthouse in Elk Point. Commissioners Ustad, Dailey, Joffer, Kimmel, and Ballard were present to review local government matters, including infrastructure projects, financial allocations, and policy considerations.

Panther high school spring finale concert

A farewell recognition to Dakota Valley seniors in band and choir took place on May 1, 2025 during the Panther’s high school spring finale concert. The event began at 7 pm and took place in the DV Performing Arts Center.

Girl Scout Troop 161 wins Bronze Award

Girl Scout Troop 161 members earned their Girl Scout Bronze Award, the highest award they can earn as a Junior. To earn it, Girl Scouts at the Junior level work as a team to identify a community issue they care about and take action to address it.

DV Board approves staff changes, facility upgrades

The Dakota Valley School District Board of Education convened for two significant meetings on April 14 and April 16, 2025, addressing a range of administrative, financial, and personnel matters. The regular board meeting focused on staffing updates, curriculum purchases, and facility improvements, while the special session was dedicated to interviewing and selecting a new superintendent.

Magstadt signs with Lewis Electric

Elk Point-Jefferson’s Carter Magstadt signed on for employment at Lewis Electric on April 16, 2025. The company is headquartered in North Sioux City, South Dakota. Home Builders of Iowa and Iowa Skilled Trades hosted the signing event which included Magstadt and other apprentices from the tri-state area who have committed to an employer for their future career path.

NSC: Election certification, transition

On April 22, 2025, North Sioux City officials convened for three consecutive meetings, marking a significant transition in local governance. The evening began with the Canvassing Board Meeting, followed by the final City Council session, and concluded with the first City Commission meeting. These meetings addressed election certification, administrative approvals, and the structural shift from a council-based government to a commission format.
