Northshore asphalt will be open to buses

On October 21, 2024, the North Sioux City Council gathered for its regular meeting, which Mayor Patricia Teel called to order promptly at 7:00 p.m. The assembly included council members Kodi Benson, Jim Christenson, Joan Christiansen, Bob Davis, Lonnie Green, Lynn Hoffman, and Greg Meyer, while Gary Bogenrief was absent. Several key officials, including City Finance Officer Amy Lilly, Interim City Administrator Andrew Nilges, and City Attorney Sarah Kleber, also attended.

Winter Coat Drive in NSC

As winter approaches, the need for warm clothing becomes increasingly essential, particularly for those who may be struggling to keep their families comfortable. This is why Jerri Bailey is reaching out to the community of North Sioux City to participate in the Winter Coat Drive. Once again, Bailey has set up coat racks at the ROCS Food Pantry located at City Hall, and Bailey needs your help to make this initiative a success.

Board approves plan for land washout restoration

The Dakota Valley School District #61-8 held its regular board of education meeting on October 14, 2024, at the Dakota Valley Board Room. The meeting, which commenced at 6:00 PM, was called to order by Vice-Chairperson Jeff Dooley. The roll call indicated the presence of members Dooley, Andrew Nilges, Emily Norby, and Matt Thompson, with Steve Kistner being absent. Administrators Dr. Tonia Warzecha and Business Manager Jill Sponder were also in attendance.

Van Den Hul inducted in to Hall of Fame

Josh Van Den Hul, of Dakota Dunes, returned to his college alma mater on Saturday, October 19, in order to be inducted into the Wartburg College Athletic Hall of Fame. As a Knight, Van Den Hul’s impact on the football field did not go unnoticed. He earned numerous honors during his time in a black and orange uniform.

Dakota Valley National Honor Society induction ceremony

A National Honor Society induction ceremony, for juniors and seniors, was held at Dakota Valley on Monday, October 14, 2024. The event took place in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at 7 pm. Advisor Amanda Valbuena, chapter president Ella Schmiedt and several students welcomed the audience and took time to explain the purpose of National Honor Society (NHS) at the high school level.

Headid suspends participation voluntarily

The Union County Board of Commissioners convened for their regular session on October 15, 2024, at the Courthouse in Elk Point, SD. The meeting commenced at 8:30 a.m. and was attended by Commissioners Michael Dailey, Kevin Joffer, Richard Headid, Peggy Ustad, and Tom Kimmel. One of the decisions made during the meeting was the approval of the agenda, with the addition of a potential county burn ban. This motion was put forward by Kimmel and seconded by Dailey, and it was carried.

NSC council considers streaming meetings

The North Sioux City Council held its regular meeting on October 7, 2024, with Mayor Teel presiding. The meeting began promptly at 7:00 p.m. and was attended by several council members, City officials, and the City Attorney. The agenda for the meeting was amended to include a discussion on future council agenda items, which was approved unanimously.
