Panther high school spring finale concert

A farewell recognition to Dakota Valley seniors in band and choir took place on May 1, 2025 during the Panther’s high school spring finale concert. The event began at 7 pm and took place in the DV Performing Arts Center.

DV Board approves staff changes, facility upgrades

The Dakota Valley School District Board of Education convened for two significant meetings on April 14 and April 16, 2025, addressing a range of administrative, financial, and personnel matters. The regular board meeting focused on staffing updates, curriculum purchases, and facility improvements, while the special session was dedicated to interviewing and selecting a new superintendent.

Magstadt signs with Lewis Electric

Elk Point-Jefferson’s Carter Magstadt signed on for employment at Lewis Electric on April 16, 2025. The company is headquartered in North Sioux City, South Dakota. Home Builders of Iowa and Iowa Skilled Trades hosted the signing event which included Magstadt and other apprentices from the tri-state area who have committed to an employer for their future career path.

NSC: Election certification, transition

On April 22, 2025, North Sioux City officials convened for three consecutive meetings, marking a significant transition in local governance. The evening began with the Canvassing Board Meeting, followed by the final City Council session, and concluded with the first City Commission meeting. These meetings addressed election certification, administrative approvals, and the structural shift from a council-based government to a commission format.

County approves abatements, appoint new members

The Union County Board of Commissioners convened for a regular session on April 22, 2025, at the Courthouse in Elk Point, South Dakota. The meeting began at 9:00 a.m. and covered a range of topics, including administrative approvals, committee appointments, property appeals, tax exemptions, and abatements.

Four DV students are merit scholars in 2025

Four smart and talented 12th graders, at Dakota Valley, have been named to the prestigious list of National Merit Scholars for 2025. They are: Prithvi Patti, Abigail Burhoop, Brendan Lindsay and Isaac Klemme.

Reinhardts meet Lonzo Ball and feel close to loved one

Dakota Valley alum and Morningside University student Alex Reinhardt passed away on February 26, 2023. However, his memory lives on due to Reinhardt’s generous nature as an organ donor. This act led to an incredible opportunity for the Reinhardt family as they got to meet one of the individuals whose life is now forever changed thanks to Alex.

NSC election recount

In North Sioux City, South Dakota, a recount in the recent special election has altered the outcome of the one-year commissioner race. Initially, David James Wilch was declared the winner by a narrow margin of two votes over Vincent D. Tucker. However, after a recount conducted on April 15, Tucker emerged victorious with 400 votes to Wilch’s 398.

DV hires Schmidt

Dakota Valley School Board has officially named Garrett Schmidt as the district’s next superintendent, according to a recent announcement on its social media page. “The Dakota Valley School Board is excited to announce that they have offered a contract to Garrett Schmidt as Dakota Valley’s next Superintendent.

County approves ordinance

The Union County Board of Commissioners convened in regular session on April 15, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. at the Courthouse in Elk Point, South Dakota. Commissioners Ballard, Kimmel, Joffer, Dailey, and Ustad attended.
