Employee Appreciation Dinner

The Union County Commissioners treated the Union County employees to an Appreciation Dinner Monday, Dec. 5 at Spink Family Restaurant in Elk Point. Employees with 15-plus years of service to the county received a plaque. Those dedicating 15-19 years of service received blue plaques; 20-29 silver and 30-plus gold.

This weeks papers delayed due to icy roads.

SDSU Extension offers training on updated Cottage Food Laws

South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension is providing training for food processors who would like to sell food products from their homes following updates to the state’s cottage food laws earlier this year.

USD’s DNAP program receives full accreditation

The University of South Dakota’s Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) has received full accreditation for the program by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education (COA), demonstrating its readiness to deliver the degree preparing registered nurses to become Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA).

Names released in Union County fatal crash

A Vermillion, SD, woman has been identified as the person who died early Saturday morning, Nov. 26 in a vehiclepedestrian crash that occurred north of North Sioux City.

Noem signs executive order banning TikTok

Governor Kristi Noem signed Executive Order 2022-10, which bans the Chinese social media platform TikTok for state government agencies, employees and contractors using state devices. This order is in response to the growing national security threat posed by TikTok due to its data gathering operations on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Christmas wreaths for veterans buried at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery

The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs, in partnership with the Midwest Honor Flight and Wreaths Across America, will host a wreath laying ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 17. The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the Committal Shelter at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery (25965 477th Avenue) in Sioux Falls.

Cross: Named Assistant Coach of the Year for 2022

Steve Cross, the assistant cross country coach for Elk Point-Jefferson, was awarded as the Area 2 Assistant Coach of the Year. He will receive a plaque either in February or March of 2023.
