EPJ Baseball: Back into the swing of things

The bats are back in action as of April 10 for the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies. The team will be led by head coach Zach Ronning and assistant coaches John Gale and Chase Sherrill.

Letter winners to help lead the way

After 14 letter winners lost from last year, 12 boys and 2 girls, the younger Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies will look up to last year’s state qualifiers and place winners to lead the team. Returning state qualifiers on the boys side include Joe Cross in the 1600 and 3200 and Daenton Ronellenfitch in the 300 hurdles and many relays.

Softball: Gearing up for a brand new season

Some Elk Point-Jefferson students will make history as the first South Dakota High School Activities Association sanctioned softball team took to the field March 30 against Dakota Valley. “There was no season last year for school but we do have back-to-back State Champions from summer softball in 2021 and 2022 on the roster,” head coach Jessie Stouffer said.

Girls Golf: Ready to hit the green

The Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) golfers are ready to take to the course. They’ll tee off their season in Beresford April 11 and follow with a home meet April 18. Two days later, April 20, EPJ will host their Husky Invite.

EPJ Softball opens season

Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) had their first “home” game of the season March 30. With the current weather conditions, most of the softball diamonds in the area aren’t ready to be played on due to excess moisture. Because of this, EPJ’s “home” game was played on Dakota Valley’s field in North Sioux City.

Nebelsick, Ronning awarded

The South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association has announced the 2023 Coaches of the Year. The award winners include: Region 5-8 Lower Level Boys Coach: Gary Nebelsick Elk Point-Jefferson School and Region 6: Assistant Boys Coach: Zach Ronning Elk Point-Jefferson High School.

Cross takes 1st at Dan Lennon Invitational Track meet

The Husky girls (and two boys) made the short trek to Vermillion to participate in the Dan Lennon Invitational Track meet on Tuesday, March 28. This is the lone indoor meet on the official EPJ schedule.

Youth Huskies wrestle at AAU State Tournament

Four Huskies participated in the AAU state wrestling tournament in Aberdeen on March 25-26. The event took place at Northern State University in Wachs Arena.

Bruns,Rosenquist play in shootout

Dakota Valley seniors Isaac Bruns and Randy Rosenquist were chosen to play on the Class A team for the Three-Class Shootout. They played in Salem, SD March 25.

Buzzer beater leads Huskies to 4th place finish March 16, 2023 will be a night to remember for Devon Schmitz. Not only because it was his birthday, but his last second 3-point shot sent the Huskies into the winning side of the Class A State Boys Basketball tournament brackets.
