Strong play by the Elk Point-Jefferson senior baseball squad had them off to a great start in the American Legion Region 3B tournament on July 24-26. Games took place in Lennox and it was a double elimination format. In the 1st round, the Huskies faced rival Dakota Valley on Wednesday, July 24. By grabbing an early lead, EPJ looked to be cruising towards a sure victory. They were up 4-0 after 3 innings of play. However, DV captured 5 runs in the 4th and 5th to make it a close one.

The Elk Point-Jefferson 14U Legion baseball roster was in Beresford on July 26-28 for the state tournament. The Huskies were region champs and took that momentum with them for their 1st game, in bracket play, against Wagner on Friday, July 26.

The 4th Annual EPJ XC 5k Road Race took place on Saturday, July 20, 2024. The 5K race started at 8:00 a.m., and the one-mile fun run/walk began at 8:15 a.m. The race featured various divisions for ages 17 to 70 and over. SDSU Extension 4-H is now accepting applications to be part of the Hunting Skills team that will participate at the 2025 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships. To print off an application form, visit extension.sdstate.edu/events and search “hunting”.

Two wins were claimed by the Elk Point-Jefferson Legion baseball team on July 16 and July 17. They faced Post 174 Senior Legion on Tuesday, July 16 and won 11-4.

Elk Point-Jefferson’s 14U VFW squad punched their ticket to state after impressive wins in bracket play for the 14U Class A Region 6 on July 15-17. The Huskies were hosts for the contest and went up against Vermillion and Dakota Valley 13U.

There were 2 legion baseball games played on July 8 between Dakota Valley and Elk Point with each side taking 1 win. Both contests were close with the Huskies coming out on top in the 1st game by a score of 7-6, and then DV earned the victory in the next match-up.

The DAK 12 released their all-conference softball selections for the 2024 high school season in June. The Huskies, who took 8th place at state this season, had three ball players earn honors.

The Huskies had 2 games to start July as Elk Point-Jefferson’s senior legion squad faced off against strong opponents on July 2nd and July 3rd. Both games were close, however EPJ was on the losing side twice as they fell to Post 911 Chargers Legion from Sioux Falls and Post 1 from Vermillion.
