Sieverding, Sommervold announce retirement

The Union County Commissioners accepted the retirement notices from Union County Auditor Jackie Sieverding and Chief Deputy Auditor Carol Sommervold at their meeting on May 14. Both notices have a retirement date of June 28. The commissioners thanked both for their years of service to the county.

North Sioux City man arrested

Thursday morning, North Sioux City police arrested Matt Vanderpool.
Vanderpool was arrested on five charges, including rape, solicitation of a minor, abuse and neglect of a child, sexual contact with a child under the age of 16, and sexual exploitation, Police Chief Richard Headid said. 
Headid could not provide any further details.
 

EPJ students bring home gold from Special Olympics SD

Special Olympics South Dakota Summer Games at The University of South Dakota was a huge success this year, with Elk Point-Jefferson Unified Champion Schools Special Olympics bringing home an impressive number of medals. The event took place on May 16-17, and five students from EPJ participated in various events over the two days.

Panther track and field place strong head on to state

The Panthers were running, jumping and throwing in Lennox on Monday, May 13th for the Rich Luther Invite. And success was seen across the board between distance races, sprints, hurdles, relays and field events.

Council swears in members, listens to public

The Elk Point City Council had a full agenda on May 6 as they swore in new council members and had a host of people in the audience to discuss various matters. Council members sworn onto the council were Deb McCreary (Mayor), Ben Irlbeck (Ward One), Kris Hurlbert (Ward Two) and Renee Irwin (Ward Three).
