On Saturday, August 10th, the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve held their annual Homestead Celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It was a well attended event as all who came were transported back to the time of pioneers while also being engulfed in nature.

$10 million campaign for South Dakota parks and recreation

A foundation that helps fund outdoor recreation projects in South Dakota has launched a $10 million fundraising campaign.The five-year effort aims to support 28 projects across the state that would otherwise face delays due to budget constraints.Representatives of the South Dakota Parks and Wildlife Foundation discussed the campaign at the Downtown Sioux Falls Rotary Club’s Monday meeting at the Holiday Inn Sioux Falls City Centre. The foundation works with the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks to fund projects that improve outdoor recreational facilities and conserve wildlife habitats.

McCook Lake victims still in limbo

Nearly seven weeks after the devastating June 23 flood at McCook Lake, victims are still in limbo about the possibility of federal aid, and some feel abandoned by government officials. Renae Hansen is a flood victim and works with the McCook Lake Izaak Walton League, which has tried to fill some of the leadership and organizational gaps in the flood response.

The City Council of North Sioux City, South Dakota, convened for its Regular Meeting on August 5, 2024. Mayor Teel led the meeting, which was attended by council members Kodi Benson, Gary Bogenrief, Jim Christenson, Joan Christiansen, Lonnie Green, and Lynn Hoffman. City officials were also present, including City Finance Officer Amy Lilly and City Attorney Sarah Kleber. Council members Greg Meyer and Bob Davis were absent.
