Dakota Valley alum and Morningside University student Alex Reinhardt passed away on February 26, 2023. However, his memory lives on due to Reinhardt’s generous nature as an organ donor. This act led to an incredible opportunity for the Reinhardt family as they got to meet one of the individuals whose life is now forever changed thanks to Alex.

In North Sioux City, South Dakota, a recount in the recent special election has altered the outcome of the one-year commissioner race. Initially, David James Wilch was declared the winner by a narrow margin of two votes over Vincent D. Tucker. However, after a recount conducted on April 15, Tucker emerged victorious with 400 votes to Wilch’s 398.

The Elk Point-Jefferson Board of Education held its regular meeting on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 5:30 pm in the high school study hall. President Geary called the meeting to order, and board members Brewer, Hanson, Jacobs, and Sayler were present. Superintendent Schonebaum, Business Manager Watterson, Principals Eriksen and Throener, Technology Coordinator Larsen, and K-12 Dean of Students/Activities Director Clercx attended. The meeting followed a structured agenda, with administrative approvals addressing the minutes from the previous session, financial reports for the month ending March 31, 2025, and the latest bills.

Voters flocked to the North Sioux City (NSC) community center and fire hall for a big municipal election on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Seats on a five-member commission were to be determined as the city turned a corner to elect a new mayor plus four commissioners.
