County looks for new VSO

On March 4, 2025, the Union County Board of Commissioners convened for their regular session at the Courthouse in Elk Point, South Dakota. The meeting commenced at 8:30 a.m. with all members present, including Dailey, Ballard, Joffer, Kimmel, and Ustad.

North Sioux City election candidates announced

The North Sioux City City Council convened for its regular meeting on March 3, 2025, at 7:00 PM, presided over by Mayor Teel. Attendees included council members Mr. Benson, Mr. Bogenrief, Ms. Christiansen, Mr. Christenson, Mr. Davis, Mr. Green, Ms. Hoffman, and Mr. Meyer. Key city officials in attendance were City Administrator Jeff Dooley, City Finance Officer Amy Lilly, and City Attorney Sarah Kleber.

Quiz bowl brings home third

The Panther high school quiz bowl team was in Sioux Falls on Monday, March 3, 2025. Two rosters competed at O’Gorman High School and one of them came away with a top finish.

Jefferson rejects all bids

On March 3, 2025, the Jefferson City Council convened at 7:00 PM for its regular meeting. Council Members P. Rigg (Mayor), T. Boulware, J. Casper, M. LaFleur, J. Lokhorst, M. Stokely, and J. Van Beest were in attendance. Others present included M. Roark, D. Sharkey, and N. Werner.

Elk Point discusses Ollies 2.0 expansion

The Elk Point City Council convened for its regular session on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 7:00 PM in the council chambers of City Hall, located at 106 W. Pleasant Street. Mayor McCreary presided over the meeting attended by Council Members Abraham, Irwin, Penfield, Hurlbert, and VonHaden. Council member Irlbeck was noted as absent. Additionally, key staff members present included City Attorney Thompson, City Administrator Tuttle, Police Chief Limoges, and Public Works Director Job.

Safe Options Services to close

After serving Clay, Union and Turner Counties SD for 45 years, the Domestic Violence Safe Options Services (SOS) program will close. Funding and staffing challenges have necessitated discontinuing the program after June 30th. The non-profit organization was founded by a group of volunteers then known as The Vermillion Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. Beginning in July limited services will be provided by River City Domestic Violence Center in Yankton.
