The Union County Commission on Jan. 20 approved combined election agreements, updated committee assignments and adopted a seasonal weight‑limit resolution during its regular meeting at the courthouse.

Last semester, Dakota Valley high schoolers in Jill Sponder’s Introduction to Business class stayed busy developing projects that centered around an innovative business idea. They took those ideas and entered the projects in the 2025 Big Idea South Dakota (SD) Competition. It was an excellent learning experience for all. In addition to being thrilled with her class’s involvement, Sponder was excited with the strong showing by DV when it came to awards.

The Dakota Valley Board of Education moved through a full agenda on Jan. 12, taking action on staffing, transportation, facility projects and a proposed cell tower lease during its regular monthly meeting.

The Horizon Health Foundation will be hosting a raffle during its Drive It Home ’26 campaign that kicked off on January 19th. The campaign is set to raise $100,000 to support the purchase of chronic care kits as part of Pillar II of the Healthier Horizons program.

The Elk Point‑Jefferson Board of Education accepted several staff resignations, renewed administrative contracts and highlighted student achievements during its regular meeting Jan. 12.

The Huskies have been commanding the stage as of late as Elk Point-Jefferson’s high school theater program prepares for their 2026 regional one-act competition. The Huskies are under the direction of EPJ one-act advisor Kirsten Colt. They have been hard at work preparing to perform a comedy for this season’s one-act performance. The play is called Dress Rehearsal Disaster. Colt described the script as “a hilarious play within a play and what happens when things don’t go as planned during the rehearsal process”.

The Elk Point City Council advanced several major purchases, addressed rising electric costs and approved a series of annual contracts during its Jan. 14 regular meeting at City Hall.

Horizon Health Elk Point has reached quality care milestones to earn recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Patient-Centered Medical Home Program for delivering high-quality, patient- centered care.

The generous spirit of the Elk Point-Jefferson community and Husky student council meant great things for The Warming Shelter in Sioux City, Iowa. From December 8-12, 2025 the EPJ Huskies took part in their first ever “Generosity Week”. During this time there were totes set out around the high school encouraging students to drop off donated winter clothing for the benefit of The Warming Shelter.
