The South Dakota Department of Human Services has partnered with GetSetUp to offer thousands of interactive online classes, free, to South Dakota residents 60+. Taught by older adults, to older adults, the 4000+ interactive classes can help SD seniors remain physically, mentally and socially active and offer a wide variety of life enhancing opportunities covering topics in categories including: Aging, Art, Business, Cooking, Creativity, Finance, Health, Employment, Languages, Performing Arts, Technology, Travel and many more.

South Derby Lane will be temporarily closed beginning Wednesday, Aug. 10. It will be closed immediately north of where the roadway turns from concrete to seal-coat and a detour will be setup. This closure will last approximately three weeks, and contractors hope to have it open to traffic by the end of the month.

By Beth Sherard-Hutcheson times1@iw.net Norb Ruhland, Dirk Lohry and Pat Benson appeared before the North Sioux City City Council to see if the city could do anything about the rumored McCook Lake canal expansion they had heard about. The city, having received some calls about the project did some digging and made calls of their own.

Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm by Mayor Teel. Benson, Bogenrief, Carpenter, Christiansen, Green, Parks, and Spates were present. Berg was absent. Also in attendance were City Administrator Eric Christensen, City Finance Officer Amy Lilly, and City Attorney Darrell Jesse. Mayor Teel led the Pledge of Allegiance. Motion by Benson, second by Spates, to approve the agenda with the addition of an executive session for legal. All members present voted aye. Motion carried. Motion by Green, second by Bogenrief, to approve the July 18, 2022 Regular Council Meeting Minutes. All members present voted aye. Motion carried. Motion by Benson, second by Green, to enter public hearing for Dollar General Alcohol Licenses at 7:01 pm. All members present voted aye. Motion carried. No public comments were heard. Administrator Christensen informed Council that the licenses that the state issues for beer and wine are on/off sale licenses. If Council wishes to further limit them to off sale only, they will need to do so by ordinance. Motion by Benson, second by Christiansen, to close public hearing at 7:03 pm. All members present voted aye. Motion carried.
