Trunk or Treat held in NSC

The North Sioux City Parks & Recreation held their Trunk or Treat. Prizes were given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The 1st place winner was Para 911, 2nd Dr. Seuss and 3rd skeleton 4-wheeler. Over 250 children participated in the event held Oct. 30 at North Sioux City City Hall parking lot.

Dakota Valley Admin Reports

The Dakota Valley Administrators had many exciting things to report on for the School Board meeting Oct. 10. Kristi Maloney, Elementary Principal Maloney’s report included the 54 students that were named the September MVPs. The students were featured in last week’s Dakota Dunes/North Sioux

The Prairie Bend cul-de-sac Halloween Decor

Halloween decorating and scarecrows on mailboxes are an annual tradition on the Prairie Bend cul-de-sac in the Meadows neighborhood of Dakota Dunes. Residents Kathy Wrage, Valerie Danielson, Jeanie Keating and more get all of the neighbors involved to bring a festive atmosphere to the Halloween season.

Congressional action sought to revive free meal program

Supporters of universal free meals for all schoolchildren in America are looking to the U.S. Congress for continued funding, either in a spending measure or the 2023 Farm Bill.

Jefferweentown promotes Tower Park

Jefferson Beer Supply has come up with a few ideas in order to raise money for new park equipment for Tower Park in Jefferson. One of them is their second annual Jefferweentown Halloween Party. The entire event is a fundraiser for new playground equipment.

Elk Point assists in Vermillion fire

On Thursday, Oct. 20 at 4:39 p.m., the Vermillion Fire EMS Department was dispatched to a fire at 607 Cottage St., Vermillion. First arriving units found heavy smoke and flames coming from rear of the structure, and the command officer declared a working fire. All occupants of the home had been safely evacuated. Fire personnel conducted a primary search of the structure and quickly extinguished visible flames. Mutual aid from Gayville, Wakonda, Yankton and Elk Point Fire Departments was requested. Firefighters continued to extinguish fire in the roofline and interior walls. The building sustained major damages.
