As a way to enhance the viewing of Dakota Valley’s property, additional security cameras are being installed in the high school parking lot. The Dakota Valley School Board decided to approve a quote from ECI on Nov. 14.

A resolution to vacate a road was rescinded at the Union County Board of County Commission meeting Nov. 15. At the Oct. 18 meeting Seth Rubida had presented a petition to the commissioners to vacate a road in Richland Township.

As an experienced classroom educator, I am excited about the potential of the proposed social studies standards. They provide a framework for students to gain critical knowledge, vocabulary, and understanding in key areas of history, government, geography, and economics. A strong foundation in social studies is necessary to prepare productive citizens for the future. These standards are both meaningful and challenging and are grounded in democratic principles like civic participation, equality, and individual freedoms. It is important to note the proposed standards are guidelines for addressing what students should know by the end of each school year. These standards do not dictate the curriculum or how a teacher in each district will teach them.

Aiden Jansen has worked his way through Boy Scouts and is now planning on helping the Elk Point community through his Eagle Scout project. The Wednesday Club contacted Boy Scout Troop 87, to see if anyone was looking for an Eagle Scout project.

Once again, concerns over the proposed disc golf course in Tower Park arose at the Jefferson City Council meeting Nov. 7.

While there were plenty of electorial races on this year’s ballot, there was one particular item that brought voters out of the woodwork in North Sioux City. In 2020, South Dakota voters elected to allow for the growing, manufacturing, sale and use of medical marijuana.
