The seventh graders of Dakota Valley introduced parents, friends, staff and classmates from other grade levels to countries from around the world on Tuesday, Dec. 20. The Seventh-Grade Culture Fair was held in the middle school auxiliary gym and the upper elementary commons. Visitors could come and hear about a variety of countries from 1:30-3:00 p.m.

South Dakota Department of Health Secretary Joan Adam has announced her retirement. “My time with the Department of Health has been very rewarding,” Adam said.

For weeks Dakota Valley students in 4th through 8th grade have been gathering donations for Embassy Care & Rehab Center in Sergeant Bluff, IA. It was a community service project that brought a lot of holiday cheer to all.

The North Sioux City Parks and Recreation held its annual Christmas Lighting Contest Dec. 12. Residents of McCook Lake and North Sioux City were able to register their homes for the contest. Awards were given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and the newest award, the Griswold Award for the most overindulgence of Christmas decorations.

The proposed rate increases for water at the November meeting of the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) Board of Supervisors was approved at the Dec. 19 meeting.

The North Sioux City City Council was presented with six ordinances and seven resolutions at their last meeting of 2022 on Dec. 19.

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies travelled to Parker Dec. 15 to snag some Pheasants for supper. The Huskies bared their teeth and kept the Pheasants from scoring above 10 points in 3 out of 4 quarters and allowed 12 points in the 4th. The girls came away with a 41-32 win.

A special council meeting was called for the City of Elk Point to finish business before the end of the year. Employee raises were determined and approved by the council.

All students in the Elk Point-Jefferson School District were the recipients of new shoes thanks to a local church. Beacon Church in Elk Point held a fundraising to raise money to donate 700 pairs of shoes to the students of Elk Point-Jefferson.
