The City of North Sioux City has been trying to determine more activities that could be implemented at the North Sioux City Senior Center. While doing research, administration reached out to the Siouxland Center for Active Generations (SCAG) in Sioux City.

The Sioux City Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), also known as the Siouxland tri-state region, retained the nation’s top spot for economic development for populations under 200,000 for the fourth year in a row according to results released March 1 by Site Selection magazine in their 2022 annual rankings. The news, hailed by elected officials, including South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, and local business leaders, represents the 11th time Siouxland has ranked first in the nation since initially earning the coveted spot in 2007.

The March Friends Feast will be held Monday, March 13 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Immanuel Lutheran Church will host the feast which will be provided by the Elk Point-Jefferson National Honor Society with assistance by the PEO.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT), in collaboration with the City of North Sioux City, community of Dakota Dunes, Union County and the Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council (SIMPCO), is seeking community input on a multi-phased Interstate 29 Corridor Study, beginning with a visioning survey.

The City of Elk Point is continuing its work for the best interests of all the people and businesses in our community. The City has once again hired an independent contractor to make inspections in our community to identify violations of the ordinances as they relate to property maintenance. These violations may include illegal vehicles, unlicensed and inoperable, being stored in the open areas of properties; rubbish, garbage and waste lying in yard areas; vacant and dilapidated buildings; buildings that require repairs such as windows, missing paint or shingles; vegetation overgrowth; and issues that involve the safety and well-being of our citizens. These efforts are meant to protect the health and safety of all families and businesses in our community. They are also meant to protect property values and encourage new families and businesses to choose Elk Point as their place to call home.

Noreen Jorgensen spent a week in Pierre where she attended the Governor’s Conference on Tourism. She represented her business, Blue Tin Ranch, Southeast South Dakota Tourism Association and the Agri-Tourism South Dakota members.

Other than 43 years and 8 months of heartburn, there are more memories of Ollie’s Drive-Inn in Elk Point. The notorious Ollie’s Drive-Inn originally opened in 1946 as Harry’s Nifty Nine.

For the last 25 years, Toni Hall has been a staple in the Elk Point-Jefferson School District. With 29 years of experience, 25 of them with EPJ, Hall knows all the effort it takes to be a teacher.

On Wednesday, March 1, the South Dakota High School Activities Association board of directors passed the _rst reading of a procedure that will provide a structure for adding new sports and _ne arts activities.
