The Horizon Health Foundation will be hosting a raffle during its Drive It Home ’26 campaign that kicked off on January 19th. The campaign is set to raise $100,000 to support the purchase of chronic care kits as part of Pillar II of the Healthier Horizons program.

The Elk Point‑Jefferson Board of Education accepted several staff resignations, renewed administrative contracts and highlighted student achievements during its regular meeting Jan. 12.

The Huskies have been commanding the stage as of late as Elk Point-Jefferson’s high school theater program prepares for their 2026 regional one-act competition. The Huskies are under the direction of EPJ one-act advisor Kirsten Colt. They have been hard at work preparing to perform a comedy for this season’s one-act performance. The play is called Dress Rehearsal Disaster. Colt described the script as “a hilarious play within a play and what happens when things don’t go as planned during the rehearsal process”.

The Elk Point City Council advanced several major purchases, addressed rising electric costs and approved a series of annual contracts during its Jan. 14 regular meeting at City Hall.

From December 8-12, 2025 the EPJ Huskies took part in their first ever “Generosity Week”. During this time there were totes set out around the high school encouraging students to drop off donated winter clothing for the benefit of The Warming Shelter.

The Union County Commission opened the new year Tuesday with a full reorganization session, approving 2026 salaries, confirming dozens of annual appointments and setting polling places for the upcoming election cycle during a wide‑ranging meeting at the courthouse. Commissioners Kevin Joffer, Mike Dailey, Bob Ballard, Tom Kimmel and Peg Ustad were present for the 8:30 a.m. meeting.
