Bridge closures scheduled for Interstate 29 at exits 9 and 15

Beginning on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, a repair project is planned for two bridges over Interstate 29 at exits 9 and 15 near Jefferson and Elk Point. Work is set to begin at exit 9, and it is projected to start at exit 15 by late April. The project will include joint replacement, bearing replacement, abutment repair, box girder end repair, approach cold milling, asphalt concrete resurfacing, and guardrail resetting.

Dakota Valley Debate

Debate students from Dakota Valley traveled up north to Harrisburg on Saturday, February 15, 2025. The Panthers were there to take part in the Rushmore Challenge NIETOC Qualifier. Many schools from South Dakota were also in attendance. Dakota Valley had 3 teams competing in the junior varsity public forum debate category.

Slater PGA Golf Professional of the Year

An incredible honor was recently bestowed on a well-known face in the North Sioux City community. Rodd Slater of McCook Lake was named the 2024 Golf Professional of the Year by the Nebraska Section Professional Golfers' Association (PGA).

On February 3, 2025, the North Sioux City Council convened for its regular meeting at 7:00 p.m. under the leadership of Mayor Teel. The attendance included Council members Mr. Benson, Mr. Bogenrief, Mr. Christenson, Mr. Davis, Mr. Green, Ms. Hoffman, and Mr. Meyer, with Ms. Christiansen absent. Key officials present were City Administrator Jeff Dooley, City Finance Officer Amy Lilly, and City Attorney Sarah Kleber.

Ballard appointed District 3 Commissioner

The Union County Board of Commissioners convened for a regular session on February 4, 2025, with the meeting starting promptly at 8:30 a.m. The commissioners present at this session were Michael Dailey, Kevin Joffer, Tom Kimmel, and Peggy Ustad.

Quiz bowl brings home top finish

The Dakota Valley quiz bowl team is in the heart of their season and performing well. Recently on Monday, January 27, 2025, they brought home a top finish from Dell Rapids.

Panthers compete in the Silver Bowl Tournament

The Panther speech and debate team was at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School on January 17-18, 2025 for the Silver Bowl Tournament. Dakota Valley students competed in speech and public forum events, as well as in the category of Lincoln-Douglas debates.

Dakota Valley elects high school student council

For the remainder of the school year there will be no 12th graders on the student council as they are set to graduate in the spring. Eighth-grade members will be added as incoming freshman representatives in August of 2025.
