Pedestrian bridge project begins soon

February 18, 2025, at the Welcome Center on Sioux Point Road, was the date of Dakota Dunes Community Improvement Districts (CID) regular meeting for their board of supervisors. Employees Andrew Tramp and Katelyn Irby were in attendance along with the following board members: Ken Beaulieu, Scott Wetz, Julie Shanafelt and Janet Finzen. Bill Shorma was noted as absent.

DV Board discusses inspections

The Dakota Valley School Board of Education convened for its regular meeting on the evening of March 10, 2025, at 6:00 PM. The session, led by Chairperson Kistner, was held with board members Hanson, Kistner, Nilges, Norby (via Zoom), and Thompson in attendance, while no members were absent. Dr. Warzecha and Business Manager Sponder also attended the meeting.

NSC City Council candidate town hall

A town hall meeting is set for Monday, March 24, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the North Sioux City Hall— Council Chambers. This gathering will provide a platform for local candidates vying for various council positions to present their visions, policies, and priorities to the citizens of North Sioux City.

Small fire on Dakota Dunes Blvd.

At approximately 5:20 pm on Monday, March 10, 2025 a small fire was spotted by passersby on Dakota Dunes Boulevard. A pad mounted transformer had started to flame near the sidewalk area close to StoneyBrook Suites Assisted Living, in Dakota Dunes, and the main boulevard. The fire happened a few hundred feet from the corner of Levee Trail and Dakota Dunes Boulevard.

DV Panther band members have busy March

Panther high school band members have been busy throughout the month of March. The Dakota Valley jazz band recently competed in the 50th Annual Augustana Jazz on the Upper Plains Festival on March 4, 2025. Then on March 12, 2025 multiple DV band students were in Vermillion for the Region I Solo/Ensemble Contest.

2025 South Dakota Middle School All-State Band

Kenzi Jenks represented Dakota Valley’s middle school as a member of the 2025 South Dakota Middle School All-State Band on March 7-8, 2025. The event took place in Mitchell, South Dakota. Jenks, a Panther 8th grader, played the baritone saxophone as a member of the festival band.

Warzecha accepts new position in Tea

Many learned on Monday, March 3, 2025 that a familiar face will be leaving the Panther school district next term. The current Dakota Valley superintendent, Dr. Tonia Warzecha, accepted a position at the Tea Area School District for the 2025/26 school year.

County looks for new VSO

On March 4, 2025, the Union County Board of Commissioners convened for their regular session at the Courthouse in Elk Point, South Dakota. The meeting commenced at 8:30 a.m. with all members present, including Dailey, Ballard, Joffer, Kimmel, and Ustad.
