South Dakota is paying a bonus to members of the Armed Forces who were legal residents of the state for no less than six months before their period of active duty and who served, or are serving, on active duty during one or more of the following periods.

The holiday season is right around the corner and it comes with great news. According to a Gallup survey, 74 percent of holiday shoppers said they expect to pay about the same amount or more on holiday gifts this year compared to last.

Two people spoke at a public hearing on the first reading of Ordinance 2023-003 for changes to the ordinances in Union County. Mitch Peterson and Andrew Cronin spoke to the Union County Board of County Commissioners Nov. 14 at their meeting. Peterson spoke on raising the capacity of people at an event to 200 and Cronin touched on other various matters.

After a four-year hiatus, St. Paul Lutheran’s annual Lutefisk and Meatball dinner is back.

In the last week, the Union County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple phone calls from Union County residents informing them of a new scam in the area. Residents are receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to be from the Union County Sheriff’s Office, sometime even utilizing some of the deputies’ names.

It was 2017 when Tony Gonsor, a 74-year-old Vietnam veteran and Custer, SD, resident, took charge of the community’s veterans honor guard, presenting military honors at funerals and on holidays such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

November 11 – Veterans Day, a day to remember all of those who served for the United States of America. However, for one local veteran, this Veterans Day weekend will be one he never forgets.

Different properties throughout Jefferson were discussed by the Jefferson City Council at their regularly scheduled meeting Nov. 6.

Growing up different people influence others making them look up to them as role models. This could be a family member, teacher, celebrity or just anyone. For Caroline Raymond, first grade teacher at Elk Point-Jefferson, she had three role models that she tries to live like every day.

The Siouxland Humane Society (SHS) has received national recognition from the Best Friends Animal Society. A plaque was awarded for achieving a save rate of over 90 percent for year 2022, naming the SHS a no-kill shelter.
