Carter wins South Dakota Senior Games 5K

In a thrilling finish at the South Dakota Senior Games, Darrel Carter emerged victorious in the 5K race, clinching first place in the 65-69 age bracket on August 10 in Pierre. Carter’s remarkable win came down to the wire, as he crossed the finish line just one second ahead of his closest competitor. This incredible achievement has brought recognition to Carter and opened the door to the prestigious Senior Nationals in Des Moines in July 2025.

$250,000 for flood relief efforts

The National Association of REALTORS (NAR) REALTOR Relief Foundation (RRF) is providing a substantial $250,000 in aid to support communities in Southeastern South Dakota affected by recent flooding from June 16th to July 8th. The areas impacted have been officially designated as disaster zones by both Governor Kristi Noem and President Joe Biden.

EPJ finalizes personnel agreements for new school year

The Elk Point-Jefferson Board of Education convened for their regular meeting and budget hearing on August 12, 2024. The meeting in the high school study hall began promptly at 5:30 p.m. Vice-President Sabrina Sayler presided over the meeting, accompanied by board members Tim Brewer, Noelle Jacobs, and Kyle Hanson. President Travis Geary was absent. Also in attendance were Superintendent Philip Schonebaum, Business Manager Heather Watterson, Principals Skyler Eriksen and Laura Throener, and K-12 Dean of Students/ Activities Director Justin Clercx.

Adams Homestead Annual Celebration

On Saturday, August 10th, the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve held their annual Homestead Celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It was a well attended event as all who came were transported back to the time of pioneers while also being engulfed in nature.

Huskies Fall athletic season kicks off

Despite still being summer, sports for fall are in full swing for Elk Point-Jefferson student athletes as they gear up for the 2024 season. Huskies active in boys golf, cross country, football and volleyball will be busy as the calendar of events is already full.
