County approves TIF plan for Dunes growth

The Union County Board of Commissioners met on April 1, 2025, for their regular session at the Courthouse in Elk Point, South Dakota. The meeting commenced at 8:30 a.m., with all members present: Commissioners Dailey, Joffer, Kimmel, Ustad, and Ballard.

Two invited to 2026 Special Olympics USA Games

Important visitors from Minnesota were at Elk Point-Jefferson high school on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Julie Briggs, Vice President-Outreach Unified Champion Schools, and Turner Gaines, Director of Unified Champion City Schools, were in town to surprise Husky students Yixian Norby and Gracelynn Bruns.

EPJ senior Wells accepted into All-State Band

Natalie Wells, a senior at Elk Point-Jefferson High School, has been accepted into All-State Band. She is the daughter of Emily and Brian Wells, has a sister named Nicole, and shares her home with two dogs, Bruce and Savannah.

Road closure scheduled

As of Monday, March 31, 2025, S.D. Highway 46 was closed to through traffic from S.D. Highway 11 to 297th Street (Hudson Curve). This closure will be in place for the duration of the reconstruction project through November 2025.

UC Electric Coop hosts Friends Feast

The Union County Electric Coop is inviting the community to the Friends Feast, a free meal event that promises good food and great company. It will take place on April 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
