Fun flows at NSC National Night Out

The corner of River Drive and Victor Avenue in North Sioux City was a happening place on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 as the city hosted their annual “National Night Out” event on the grounds near the community’s library. City staff, plus the fire department and local police, were all on-hand to help with traffic, serve food, chaperone the fun and mingle with the public.

Jefferson approves trash contract

The Jefferson City Council on Aug. 4 approved a new three-year trash contract, scheduled upcoming budget discussions, and addressed several community concerns during its regular meeting at City Hall.

Attempted robbery in Elk Point

A northwest Iowa man is facing multiple charges after a reported break-in attempt in Elk Point. According to records, James Jennings, 43, tried to force entry into a home on Aug. 3, threatened two residents and attempted to climb through a kitchen window while armed with a knife. Jennings was injured during the incident and now faces two counts of aggravated assault and one count of first-degree burglary.

Union County approves jail control system

The Union County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 5 approved a series of infrastructure agreements, personnel changes, and financial claims during a full-day meeting at the courthouse.

Council schedules budget hearing

The Elk Point City Council on Aug. 4 approved two survey plats, scheduled upcoming budget discussions, and welcomed the city’s new building official during its regular meeting.

2025 Fall coaches at EPJ

It is still summer, but the Elk Point-Jefferson school district has been busy gearing up for autumn activities in 2025. A fall sports kickoff meeting occurred on July 23, 2025 and practices are almost ready to start, or have commenced, for the Huskies. Many familiar faces are back in the roles of fall coaches for EPJ. Justin Clercx continues in his role as activities director for the Huskies.

Union County Fair celebrates 95th year

The county fairgrounds in Alcester, SD were a busy place from Thursday, July 31st through Saturday, August 2nd, as the Union County Fair took place for 2025. Fun was had with 4-H participants showcasing their skills and talents while the general public flocked to the fairgrounds to enjoy vendors, see exhibits and take part in many entertainment offerings.

August Friends Feast

The aroma of simmering spaghetti sauce will welcome guests to Immanuel Lutheran Church on Monday, Aug. 11, as the Elk Point Chamber of Commerce prepares to host the August Friends Feast community meal. From 5:30 to 7 p.m., neighbors, families, and friends will gather for a warm plate of spaghetti, dessert, and shared conversation— all free of charge.
