Dakota Valley esport teams looking forward to state

In the second to last week of regular season play, Panther esports athletes are striving to advance to the postseason. The 2025 Fenworks/SDHSAA South Dakota esports state tournament will occur on February 14-15 in Aberdeen. Central High School is set to be the host.

Metros face heavier competition

Metros have experienced it all in just two weeks of regular season play with shutouts, shootouts, and a split. Omaha jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period during the Saturday, January 25th game. Metros fought back and the contest went into overtime where Sioux City secured the 3-2 win. Forward Karson Fitch, a Senior at Heelan High School, broke the Sioux City Metros record for career assists, recording his 104th and 105th assists. The previous record of 103 had stood for 10 years. Sunday’s game provided spectators with intense action and numerous penalties by both benches. The outcome was a 2-3 loss to the Jr. Lancers.

Elk Point-Jefferson girls pull off win on senior night

A nice crowd was in the Elk Point-Jefferson stands for the girls basketball game versus Tri-Valley (TV) on Thursday, January 30, 2025. It was senior night and also an impressive victory for the team.

Elk Point-Jefferson wrestlers perform well in Wagner

The Huskies wrestled in Wagner on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the Tom Studelska Invite. They placed 10th in team scoring out of 18 teams and performed well on the mat. Bon Homme/Avon were the champions of the tournament.

EPJ Huskies pounce on Tri-Valley Mustangs

The Huskies jumped out to a 9-0 lead versus Tri-Valley (TV) in their home boys basketball game on January 30, 2025. It was a great game for Elk Point-Jefferson who played strong on both ends of the court all night.

EPJ Youth Wrestling tournament

An estimated 270 youth wrestlers were in Elk Point on Sunday, January 26, 2025 for Elk Point-Jefferson’s annual tournament. The event took place in the middle school and high school gyms with many volunteers on-hand.

Dakota Valley Panther wrestlers grapple well at DAK 12

The Panther varsity wrestling squad had their work cut out from them as they faced strong competition on Saturday, January 25, 2025 for the DAK XII Conference Tournament. The event took place in Elk Point and was hosted by the Huskies.

DV boys win one at home, compete tough at Corn Palace

On Friday, January 24, 2025 it was a home game for the Dakota Valley boys basketball against the Tri-Valley (TV) Mustangs. The Panthers kicked it in gear for the 2nd half after keeping things close in the first 2 quarters. The final was in DV’s favor by a score of 88-56.

Panther esports earn multiple victories, stay on top

Despite being indoors and digital, even the Panther esports teams fell victim to the arctic temperatures that plagued areas on January 20-21, 2025. While Dakota Valley only had late starts, some schools in South Dakota canceled which meant rescheduling occurred for a few gaming titles. Despite the weather, it did not distract the Panther’s ability to win. Once again, in week #6 of esports competition, DV strung together multiple victories to continue to be a threat for each and every opponent.

Elk Point-Jefferson boys pull off road win against A-W

A strong conference rival, the Vermillion Tanagers, came to town on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 to take on the Elk Point-Jefferson boys basketball team. The two teams are members of the DAK 12 Conference and both are also aligned in Region 4A for Class A in South Dakota.
