DV Band members earn awards at region competition

On Wednesday, Feb. 28, members of the Dakota Valley high school band participated in the Region 1 Band Solo and Ensemble Festival held at Lennox High School. A multitude of SUPERIOR ratings, which are the highest on the judging scale, were earned by the Panthers as well as two EXCELLENT ratings.

JBS to host Food Truck Battle Royale

Jefferson Beer Supply, local Siouxland craft brewery, will host a Food Truck Off-Menu Battle Royale April 27. Four of Siouxland’s favorite food trucks will go head-tohead, each featuring an “off-menu” special available only on the day of the event. Diners will vote for their favorite dish, and the winning truck walks away as the “Food Truck Battle Royale Champion” and custom championship wrestling belt! The event Shelter to raise money and awareness for Siouxland’s only emergency homeless shelter.

Dakota Valley holds Donuts with Grown-ups

The first ever “Donuts with Grown-ups” event was held on Thursday, March 7 at the Dakota Valley Elementary School. It was highly attended with a line out the door and many tables filled with students and adults sharing breakfast together prior to the start of the school day.

Students inducted into National Junior Honor Society

Dakota Valley middle school held an induction ceremony for National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) on Monday, March 4 in the Performing Arts Center. Students in 7th and 8th grade were selected for NJHS based on the following five pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship.

Youth wrestlers advance to SDWCA state tournament

The 2024 South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association (SDWCA) Region 5 contest was held on Saturday, March 9. Eighteen Panther youth wrestlers qualified for regionals this season which took place in Hartford at West Central High School.

Bridge work scheduled to begin on Interstate 29 near Elk Point

On Monday, March 18, 2024, bridge work is scheduled to begin on Interstate 29 at exit 18 near Elk Point. The project includes approach pavement repair, bridge deck replacement, bridge deck chip seal, and berm protection at the structures located on I-29 at exit 18 and the Interstate railroad bridges located just north of exit 18. Lane closures, with temporary speed limit reductions, will be used to move traffic through the work zones. Motorists can expect delays during these times.
