EPJ School board approves annual budget

The Elk Point-Jefferson Board of Education convened for their regular meeting on September 9, 2024, at 5:30 pm in the high school study hall. The meeting was chaired by President Travis Geary, with the following members present: Tim Brewer, Noelle Jacobs, and Kyle Hanson. Superintendent Philip Schonebaum, Business Manager Heather Watterson, Principals Skyler Eriksen and Laura Throener, K-12 Dean of Students/Activities Director Justin Clercx, and Technology Coordinator Myles Larsen were present.

The Panthers will be celebrating Homecoming on September 30-October 5, 2024. Something new this year will be the distribution of “Alumni Ribbons” to honor past graduates of Dakota Valley.

North Sioux City approved for $300,000 LIIP grant

The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) approved three SD Works loans, two Revolving Economic Development and Initiative (REDI) fund loans, and one Local Infrastructure Improvement Program (LIIP) grant at this month’s meeting.

The Women’s Wednesday Club

The Women’s Wednesday Club is one of the oldest organized clubs in Elk Point and has continued as a literary club for 125 years. Preliminary work on a constitution was started in 1899 with seventeen women in the club.

Elk Point City Council approves sale of property

The Elk Point City Council convened for a regular meeting on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 7:00 pm in the council chambers of City Hall. The meeting covered several critical agenda items and decisions. Mayor Deb Mc-Creary presided over the meeting with full attendance from council members, including Lance Penfield, Amanda Abraham, Renee Irwin, Kris Hurlbert, Kenneth VonHaden, and Ben Irlbeck. City Attorney Craig K. Thompson, City Administrator Derek Tuttle, Police Chief Dan Limoges, Finance Officer Erika Hammitt, and Public Works Director Trevor Job were also present.

The North Sioux City, City Council regular meeting was held on September 3, 2024. The meeting commenced promptly at 7:00 p.m. with Mayor Teel leading proceedings. The council comprised Kodi Benson, Gary Bogenrief, Jim Christenson, Joan Christiansen, Bob Davis, Lonnie Green, Lynn Hoffman, and Greg Meyer, along with City Finance Officer Amy Lilly, Interim City Administrator Andrew Nilges, and City Attorney Sarah Kleber in attendance.
