South Dakota’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) held their state leadership conference on April 13-14, 2026 in Pierre, South Dakota. Justine Sponder, the Dakota Valley (DV) high school business teacher, accompanied a dozen Panther students to the state’s capital for the event.

Mayor Chris Bogenrief called the April 20 meeting to or‑der at 6 p.m. Commis‑sioners Julie Burhoop, Lynn Hoffman and Jes‑sica Strain were present; Vincent Tucker was absent. The North Sioux City Plan‑ning Commission opened a pub‑lic hearing Wednesday on the city’s updated Comprehensive Plan and received several devel‑opment and construction updates during its April 22 meeting at City Hall.

DV students bring Broadway energy to ‘Guys and Dolls Jr.’

Dakota Valley’s performing arts center was booked for three nights from April 16-18, 2026 for the high school theater department’s production of Guys and Dolls Jr. Director Jody Robertson brought the show to life with musical direction from Panther choir teacher Kari Wilmes. A cast and crew of over 20 students helped brighten the stage with well acted scenes and fun musical numbers.

EPJ bands earn Superior rating, first‑place jazz finish

The annual band competition for Region 1 Large Group was held at the University of South Dakota, on April 8, 2026. Elk Point-Jefferson’s high school band was in attendance and earned high accolades. Judges gave the Huskies a Division I Superior rating for their performances of Overture for Winds by Charles Carter, Arioso by Clifton Williams, and The Cave You Fear by Michael Markowski. Husky band director, Preston Pohlman, was thrilled with how well his students competed in Vermillion, South Dakota.
