However, experts in child development and education are increasingly advocating for a shift in perspective, emphasizing the importance of failure and the growth mindset it cultivates as a crucial component of personal growth and future success. For the purpose of this article, failure does not necessarily mean receiving an F as a letter grade, but rather, any setback that falls below the standard expectation that a parent may have for their child in multiple settings and contexts. The idea of failure providing an opportunity for growth and future success extends far beyond the scope of a classroom, the basketball court, football field or stage. It’s a natural instinct for parents to shield their children from disappointment, but the reality is that failure is an inevitable part of life. Allowing your child to experience setbacks provides invaluable opportunities for learning resilience, problem- solving and the ability to navigate challenges.
