Sieverding, Sommervold announce retirement

The Union County Commissioners accepted the retirement notices from Union County Auditor Jackie Sieverding and Chief Deputy Auditor Carol Sommervold at their meeting on May 14. Both notices have a retirement date of June 28. The commissioners thanked both for their years of service to the county.

DV music department receives national recognition for music education support

For the 7th year, the Dakota Valley Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 25th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

North Sioux City man arrested

Thursday morning, North Sioux City police arrested Matt Vanderpool.
Vanderpool was arrested on five charges, including rape, solicitation of a minor, abuse and neglect of a child, sexual contact with a child under the age of 16, and sexual exploitation, Police Chief Richard Headid said. 
Headid could not provide any further details.
