Ordinances, resolutions dominate meeting

The North Sioux City City Council was presented with six ordinances and seven resolutions at their last meeting of 2022 on Dec. 19.

Elected officials salaries approved

Union County’s elected officials were approved for a raise at the Union County Board of County Commission meeting Dec. 13. As of next year, elected officials will see an increase of $2 per hour, except Union County State’s Attorney Jerry Miller who is receiving a $7,000 raise.

RoboKodas receive Speedway’s Build Award

Caden Dial, member of North Sioux City RoboKodas Robotics Club, travelled to Speedway, IN to compete at the Speedway VEX Signature Robotics Event. Seventyeight teams competed, representing 12 states and 2 countries. 77000X RoboKodas and 8349A Anomoly from Kentucky, formed the 9th ranked alliance and was defeated in the quarter finals.

COLLEGE NOTES

Minnesota State University, Mankato Minnesota State University, Mankato awarded 2,193 degrees to 1,936 students at the end of the fall 2022 semester, at commencement ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 10 in Taylor Center’s Bresnan Arena on the Minnesota State Mankato campus.

Panthers battle on home court, travels to Iowa

The first home game for the Dakota Valley girls basketball team was versus the Beresford Watchdogs on Tuesday, Dec. 13. It was a close contest with the Panthers digging deep in the 2nd half to come back from 10 points down at the half. However, they would fall short as the game buzzer sounded.

Metros go 2-1 over weekend

The Sioux City Metro Hockey teams travelled to Fremont, NE, on Friday, Dec. 16. Dakota Valley’s Junior Grant Harder scored in both the first and third periods. DV Sophomore Blaze Bauer added an assist in the second. The varsity team would end the game with a 6-0 win over the Flyers. Despite 2 goals by Dakota Valley Freshman Noah Graham in the second period, the Metro Junior Varsity lost 4-6.

Getting better every week

The Dakota Valley wrestling squad had their hands full on Tuesday, Dec. 13 as they travelled to Elk Point for a triangular against tough conference foes Vermillion and Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ). The Panthers lost their dual with the Tanagers in a good contest by a score of 23-48. They fell to the Huskies 10-54.

Santa, cookies, cocoa at the library

Despite windy winter weather a lot of fun was had at the North Sioux City library for their “Cookies & Cocoa at the Library” event. Santa Claus was the guest of honor as he made an appearance to talk with all of the good little boys and girls in the library. He handed out candy canes and indoor snowballs to many, and even read a story to the crowd.
