Mitchell Electric continues to light the way

Mitchell Electric is a woman-owned, family-oriented business that began 10 years ago in a home in North Sioux City. Since then, they have kept the electricity on for various businesses and homes in North Sioux City and surrounding communities.

Ordinances dominate city meeting

Five ordinances greeted the North Sioux City City Council members at their meeting Feb. 6. The first ordinance was the second reading on snow removal. The ordinance, which passed, simplifies the requirements concerning parking on the street during a snow emergency.

Human Trafficking presentation

A Human Trafficking presentation will take place at North Sioux City City Hall Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. The presentation will be led by Outreach Coordinator Bernadette Rixner with the Siouxland Coalition Against Human Trafficking (SCAHT).

Coaches of the Year announced

The South Dakota High School Coaches Association announced the Coach of the Year Awards for the Fall of 2022.

In Cheer, Cami Bacon of St. Mary’s High School was named Coach of the Year.

Dance Coach of the Year is Lynsey Andal of Beresford High School. Carey Baczwaski of Dakota Valley received nominations.

Mark Anderson of Tea Area High School was named the Girls’ Soccer Coach of the Year and Jeff Fierro of Rapid City Stevens High School Boys’ Soccer Coach of the Year.

DV attends Regional Math Bee Competition

Dakota Valley middle school students competed at Northeast Community College Center in South Sioux City, NE Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023 for a regional math bee competition. It was a successful event for the Panthers, as the 8th grade team took 3rd place and the 7th grade garnered 2nd place.

Peoples Bank opens in NSC

It was a large crowd at the Peoples Bank in North Sioux City, on Thursday, Feb. 2 to celebrate the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce’s ribbon cutting for the branch. Peoples Bank, located in Suite 110 on 100 S. Sodrac Drive, in North Sioux City is now the 10th location for Peoples Bank.

Love is in the air this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is the annual reminder for couples to express their love and classrooms to host student exchanges of candy, cards and trinkets. Everyone celebrates cupid’s holiday in their own special way. Some make no fuss, while others go big.

Ten years and still making the Dream work

On Jan. 27, 2013, Chris and Katrina Waples stood at the door and flipped their open sign together. They made a promise to each other on that day, if their business made it to 10 years, they would go on a week-long vacation together. That time has come. Dreamworks Collision Center just celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in America and it has seen increased popularity in the local area. According to the Association of Pickleball Professionals, in 2022, there were 36.5 million people taking part in this growing paddle sport.
