NSC Planners sign off on growth

The North Sioux City Planning Commission on May 27 recommended approval of several devel‑opment items, including acceptance of completed infrastructure in the Union Crossing subdivi‑sion and adoption of the city’s updated 2050 com‑prehensive plan, accord‑ing to draft minutes.

DDCID plans new LED crossing sign

The May 18, 2026 meeting for the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) was called to order at 6:00 pm with members Scott Wetz, Ken Beaulieu, Dalton Hanson and Janet Finzen pres‑ent. William Shorma attended via phone. Also at this meeting were: Manager Andrew Tramp, legal counsel Darrell Jesse, CID employee Katelyn Irby and two members of the public.

County weighs office relocation

The Union County Commission moved forward on several highway projects, reviewed courthouse construction logistics and de‑clined to advance a proposed truck‑traffic ordinance during its May 26 regular meeting at the courthouse in Elk Point, ac‑cording to the unapproved min‑utes.

Union County voters delivered clear, often commanding margins in Tuesday’s Republican primary, shaping several key federal, state and local contests, according to unofficial results from the South Dakota Secretary of State’s Office.

Union County June 2 Republican primary - Candidate Q&A

Union County voters will see a wide range of local, legislative and statewide contests on the June 2 primary ballot. Races vary by pre‑cinct, but Republican voters county‑wide will decide several competitive contests. Sample ballots for all pre‑cincts appear in this week’s edition.

I‑29 study details rebuild, interchange options

State and regional transpor‑tation officials have presented the final recommendations for the Interstate 29 Corridor Study, outlining a series of major recon‑struction projects, interchange redesigns and long‑term improve‑ments planned for the 11‑mile stretch of interstate running through Union County. The public open house, held May 19 at the North Sioux City Com‑munity Center and streamed vir‑tually, served as the final public meeting before the study is com‑pleted later this year. The South Dakota Department of Trans‑portation (SDDOT) is leading the project with consultant HDR and partner agencies including SIMPCO, Union County, North Sioux City, Dakota Dunes, the Iowa DOT and the Federal High‑way Administration.

NSC advances flood recovery

North Sioux City com‑missioners continued pushing ahead on major flood‑recovery and infra‑structure projects dur‑ing their May 18 regular meeting, approving de‑sign work, construction payments and contract adjustments tied to ongo‑ing reconstruction around Northshore Drive and McCook Lake.

NSC to host youth baseball‑softball community night

All of the youth baseball teams, softball squads and t-ball rosters from the local community are invited to the legion baseball field, in North Sioux City, on Monday, June 8, 2026 at 5:30 pm. Teams are encouraged to come for the National Anthem and take in a first pitch ceremony. A carnival, with baseball and softball themes, will follow on field #2 at the NSC/DV complex located at 1150 Northshore Drive, near Dakota Valley’s elementary school building.
