A Message from Mayor Chris Bogenrief Staying Connected Close to Home At times, the world beyond our community can feel heavy. Headlines move fast, national conversations grow loud, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by stories happening far from home. That’s one reason I’ve come to appreciate the importance of staying connected to what’s happening right here in North Sioux City.

Over the past ten months as your mayor, I’ve had the opportunity to sit in meetings, visit job sites, attend community events, and talk with residents about what matters most to them. What I’ve seen firsthand is this: there is a great deal of good work happening close to home. Projects are moving forward. Local businesses are investing. Volunteers are serving. Families are gathering. Our schools, civic groups, and city departments are doing the everyday work that keeps this community strong. Those stories may not always make national headlines, but they shape our daily lives.

That’s why local news matters.

Publications like the Dakota Dunes/North Sioux City Times play an important role in keeping residents informed about decisions being made, projects underway, and events happening throughout our city. Whether you receive the paper in your mailbox or read it digitally, I encourage you to stay connected through local journalism. Supporting and reading local news helps ensure that our community’s story continues to be told.

Over the past year, the City has also worked intentionally to strengthen how we communicate directly with residents. Our monthly email newsletter shares updates on infrastructure projects, public meetings, community highlights, and upcoming events. It has grown to more than 600 subscribers, and if you haven’t yet signed up, I encourage you to do so by visiting our website https:// northsiouxcity-sd.gov/getnotified.

No matter how you choose to stay informed, what matters most is that you stay engaged. Because when we focus close to home, we gain perspective. We see progress. We understand the challenges. And most importantly, we recognize the many people working every day to make North Sioux City a place we are proud to call home. Staying informed is one of the simplest and most meaningful ways to strengthen a community. I hope you’ll continue to be part of that effort.

Warmly, Mayor Chris Bogenrief
