Investing in Infrastructure, Strengthening Community

As we approach the start of a new school year, I’ve been reflecting on how much progress North Sioux City has made in just a few short months and how the decisions we make today will shape our future for generations to come.

Two key projects are moving forward that will directly impact the safety, growth, and everyday life of our community, especially for families with children attending Dakota Valley Schools.

The first is the Northshore Bypass, a planned new roadway that will run north of the existing Northshore Drive. After years of evaluation, weighing pros and cons, and listening to feedback, we’re advancing with this project because, after careful consideration, it offers the most long-term benefit for our community. The bypass is designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion during peak school hours, and create a safer, more efficient route that better connects our neighborhoods. You can learn more about the project at www.northshorebypass. com.

The second is the reconstruction of Northshore Drive itself, which was severely damaged in last year’s flood. The temporary road has helped us get by over the past year, but we know it hasn’t been easy, and it was never meant to be a longterm solution. To ensure a safe and reliable road for families traveling to and from school and to help revitalize one of the areas hardest hit by the flood, we need to move forward with a permanent rebuild. In order to keep this project on track for construction in spring 2026, we’ll need rightof- way easements from property owners along Northshore Drive as soon as possible. Without these easements, we risk significant delays.

We know many residents are still feeling the effects of last year’s flood, and that remains front of mind as we plan ahead. These projects prioritize safety, support recovery, and help lay the foundation for a stronger North Sioux City.

Thank you for staying engaged and hopeful about what’s ahead. Let’s keep building a resilient and connected community together.

Warmly, Mayor Chris Bogenrief
