Dakota Valley state softball preview

For the 2nd consecutive season the Panther high school softball team has qualified for the South Dakota state tournament. They will head to Aberdeen for 3 games of postseason play, on May 30, May 31 and June 1, after defeating Vermillion in the SoDak 16 qualifier on Wednesday, May 22nd.
Dakota Valley golfers swing strong, send three to state

A full week was on the calendar for the Panther girls golf team as they played in the DAK XII conference meet on Monday, May 20 and then had regionals on Thursday, May 23. Dakota Valley represented well at both meets, with the biggest news being 8th grader Katie Betsworth taking 1st place for each competition.
Elk Point-Jefferson beats Sioux Valley heads to state

A 10th place seeding by the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) had the Elk Point-Jefferson team traveling a distance to battle #7 seeded Sioux Valley. The game was originally planned to take place on Tuesday, May 21. However, Mother Nature had other plans and the game was rescheduled to Wednesday, May 22.
Elk Point-Jefferson shoots well, two Huskies head to state

Spring Creek Country Club was the site for the 2024 DAK 12 conference girls golf meet on May 20. Some of the best high school golfers were in attendance and the Huskies performed well against a fierce field.
Hail, wind and heavy rain impact the area

A long duration storm system brought large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall to the region from the afternoon of May 20 through the evening of May 21, 2024. Supercell thunderstorms emerged over parts of the Tri-State area in the evening.

The Panthers scored first versus the Sergeant Bluff-Luton (SBL) Warriors on January 7, 2025 with Tyler Cornelsen’s 3-pointer. And the home game was off with both squads pushing the ball up and down the court.

Dakota Valley esports stays on top in all titles

Lots of victories were earned by the Dakota Valley esports roster upon the teams return to action from winter break. Contests occurred on January 6-9, 2025 and the win column grew for many of the student athletes.

On January 7, 2025, the Union County Board of Commissioners convened for their regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Courthouse. Commissioners Michael Dailey, Kevin Joffer, Tom Kimmel, and Peggy Ustad presented for the meeting. Elk Point-Jefferson wrestlers faced tough Bon Homme team

Some busy days of competition were in store for the Elk Point-Jefferson wrestlers during the 2nd week of the New Year. On January 9, 2025 they traveled to an away dual, then on January 11, the EPJ wrestlers were right back in the action to compete in the Jesse James Invitational.

Lady Huskies dominate Dell Rapids Quarriers

With only 1 loss on the season to date, the Elk Point-Jefferson girls basketball team traveled to Dell Rapids on Saturday, January 11, 2025 with high hopes. They were hungry for another win and it showed on the court. The Huskies dominated against the Quarriers, and a big win was achieved as they bested Dell Rapids 60-26.

Dooley new NSC city administrator

Stability is the focus for Jeff Dooley as North Sioux City’s new city administrator. It is a role he feels ready to take on as he looks forward to being an asset to a community in need. Dooley’s first day was December 2, 2024 and with it came an excitement and an energy that many are eager to have at city hall.
