DV Panther band members have busy March

Panther high school band members have been busy throughout the month of March. The Dakota Valley jazz band recently competed in the 50th Annual Augustana Jazz on the Upper Plains Festival on March 4, 2025. Then on March 12, 2025 multiple DV band students were in Vermillion for the Region I Solo/Ensemble Contest.

2025 South Dakota Middle School All-State Band

Kenzi Jenks represented Dakota Valley’s middle school as a member of the 2025 South Dakota Middle School All-State Band on March 7-8, 2025. The event took place in Mitchell, South Dakota. Jenks, a Panther 8th grader, played the baritone saxophone as a member of the festival band.

DV Board discusses inspections

The Dakota Valley School Board of Education convened for its regular meeting on the evening of March 10, 2025, at 6:00 PM. The session, led by Chairperson Kistner, was held with board members Hanson, Kistner, Nilges, Norby (via Zoom), and Thompson in attendance, while no members were absent. Dr. Warzecha and Business Manager Sponder also attended the meeting.

Friends Feast fosters community spirit in Elk Point

Elk Point residents gathered on the evening of March 10 for the monthly Friends Feast, an event filled with delicious food, heartfelt camaraderie, and a shared sense of giving back to the community. Held from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., the feast brought together individuals from all walks of life, united by the simple joy of breaking bread together.

Pedestrian bridge project begins soon

February 18, 2025, at the Welcome Center on Sioux Point Road, was the date of Dakota Dunes Community Improvement Districts (CID) regular meeting for their board of supervisors. Employees Andrew Tramp and Katelyn Irby were in attendance along with the following board members: Ken Beaulieu, Scott Wetz, Julie Shanafelt and Janet Finzen. Bill Shorma was noted as absent.

Elk Point-Jefferson Spring sports meeting recap

Huskies involved in spring sports gathered on Monday, March 10, 2025 in the Elk Point-Jefferson high school gym for the “Spring Kickoff” meeting. Athletes planning to participate in girls golf, high school softball and/or track and field were in attendance for the event that began at 6:30 pm.

Dakota Valley girls beat West Central, head to state

The SODAK 16 game for the Panther girls basketball team happened on March 6, 2025 at the neutral site of Tea, South Dakota. They were up against a strong squad from West Central (WC) with a chance to play in the 2025 state tournament on the line.

Vincent gets real world experience

Husky senior Ethan Vincent is getting real world job experience as he closes out the final semester of high school thanks to an amazing opportunity at Empirical Foods. Vincent, a resident of Jefferson, has been interning in the company’s location in Dakota City, Nebraska during. This is part of the internship program that Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) high school coordinates with area businesses.
