Monicals train with judo masters in Japan

The combat sport, and a highly practiced martial art, of judo has been popular with some high schoolers in the area. So popular in fact, that Eston and Bella Monical, from Dakota Dunes, traveled to judo’s birthplace of Japan this past summer. The siblings are both brown belts and they visited the Asian country accompanied by their mom Wendy.

DV school board greenlights tech overhaul

The Dakota Valley School District Board of Education approved a district-wide data center upgrade and appointed Andrew Nilges as the ASBSD Delegate Assembly Member. It reviewed department updates and more than $1 million in expenditures during its regular meeting Oct. 13.

Dakota Valley pushes through adversity in final home game

The last home football game of the regular season for Dakota Valley was held on Friday, October 17, 2025. The Panthers were playing the Tanagers of Vermillion. It would be a tough contest as DV was handed a loss by a score of 6-27. This took the Panther’s record in South Dakota Class 11A high school football to 3-5.

EPJ volleyball battles past SSC for match victory

Travel across the river into Nebraska occurred for the Elk Point-Jefferson volleyball team as they battled South Sioux City (SSC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Every set was close, but the Huskies left the Cornhusker state with a 3-1 match win.

EPJ trounces Sioux Valley to close out perfect season

Regular season play ended well for the Huskies in football as they trounced Sioux Valley by a score of 41-26 on Friday, October 17, 2025. This gives Elk Point-Jefferson an undefeated season for 2025 and plenty of momentum as they head into the postseason playoffs.

Huskies cross country makes history at regionals

History was made by the Elk Point-Jefferson boys cross country team on Friday, October 17, 2025 as they outpaced the competition at regionals. A rain delay in Parkston, on October 16, postponed the meet to the next day. However, it did not slow down the Huskies at all.

First Dakota provides interest-free loans to federal employees affected by government shutdown

First Dakota National Bank announced today the introduction of a no-interest, no-fee loan program for credit-qualified federal government employees affected by the shutdown. Unified bowlers shine at area competition

Elk Point-Jefferson’s Unified Special Olympics Bowling team was in Sioux Falls on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12, 2025 for an area competition.
