EPJ teacher awarded communication poster

Elk Point-Jefferson’s 6th-12th grade special education teacher Cassandra Schmith won a free communication poster April 4. Dustin Rhoades, owner of Ability Tech, presented her with the poster along with his son, Kayden. She won the poster through a nomination as part of Ability’s Tech We All Have A Voice mission.

On a cold, windy, and overcast day, 10 teams competed at the EPJ Husky Track Invitational on Monday, April 3. Originally scheduled for April 4, this meet was moved due to the inclement weather forecast for the 4th.

The bats are back in action as of April 10 for the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies. The team will be led by head coach Zach Ronning and assistant coaches John Gale and Chase Sherrill.

Tea area Titans down Huskies

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies took on the Tea Area Titans Monday, April 3 as the home team. However, due to moisture on the softball elds, the Huskies had to play on Dakota Valley’s eld as the home team. The Titans put up a ght and charged past the Huskies, winning the game 17-2.

Aslesen named to NAIA Women’s Basketball All-Tournament team

The 2022-23 Dakota State University Trojan women’s basketball team had one of the most historic seasons in program history, with numerous records set in the school record books. The Trojans advanced to the NAIA national seminals for the rst time in school history before falling to eventual national champion Clarke (Iowa).

BHSU students’ breakthrough research published in scientific journal

After three years of research, a group of BHSU students and faculty studying how environmental factors in_uence the development of neurological disease have had their findings published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal PLOS ONE.

Curry and Schmitz lead Lady Huskies at Vermillion

April 6 saw the varying weather conditions of winds, sun, rain and calm as the Huskies made the short drive to compete in the Vermillion Booster Invite. Thirteen teams were involved in the meet, including Beresford, Canton, Dakota Valley, Elk Point-Jefferson, Gayville-Volin, Hinton, Lennox, Madison, Milbank, South Sioux City, Tea Area, Vermillion and West Central.

Noem calls for help to prevent child abuse, neglect

Governor Kristi Noem has proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month to help bring an end to abuse and neglect in South Dakota. The Department of Social Services (DSS) is working to enhance awareness and offer tools for prevention.
