EPJ sets school board election

The Elk Point-Jefferson Board of Education set their annual election, along with the cities of Elk Point and Jefferson, for April 9 at their meeting Jan. 8. Up for election are two positions on the board (Tim Brewer and Jessica LaFleur) up for election. Both are for three-year terms. Petitions can begin to be circulated on Jan. 26 until Feb. 23.

Elk Point-Jefferson huskies struggle in second half of games

The Elk Point-Jefferson boys basketball team faced Canistota on Jan. 2 and Dell Rapids on Jan. 6. Both games were full of fierce play, but the Huskies downfall was their offensive play in the second half of both games.

DV families volunteer over winter break

Winter break is often a time for holiday fun and gathering with friends and family. It can also be a chance to give back, which is what many Dakota Valley families did on Friday, Dec. 29. The non-profit organization, Sleep in Heavenly Peace Sioux City, benefited greatly as locals from Dakota Dunes, North Sioux City and surrounding areas gathered to build beds for children in need.

Dakota Valley Panthers show their strength

There is little doubt in anyone’s mind as to how strong the Panther boys basketball team is after a dominating win versus Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Saturday, Jan. 6. Dakota Valley bested the Warriors by a score of 69-41 on SBL’s homecourt.

Panthers participate in Parkston Classic

Both the boys and the girls basketball teams for Dakota Valley travelled during winter break for the Parkston Classic on Dec. 29. Teams from throughout South Dakota played at the Parkston Armory to close out 2023.

Thornton recalls service in WWII

Of the 16.1 million Americans who fought during World War II (WWII), there are only 119,550 veterans remaining, according to 2023 Department of Veteran Affairs statistics. Of the 119,550 living veterans, 463 of them live in South Dakota. One of those 463 WWII veterans resides in North Sioux City.

Four Huskies place in Garretson Invitational

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies attended Garretson’s Jesse James Invitational on Jan. 6 and came home with one 3rd place finish and three 4th place finishes.

Elk Point-Jefferson Lady Huskies continue winning streak

On Dec. 30, the Huskies took to the court against Irene-Wakonda and didn’t look back. The girls controlled the ball from start to finish taking a commanding lead and clipping the Eagles wings 60-26.
